Teaching yoga is such a privilege and I hope to share with you my own passion and love for practising yoga. I teach Classic Hatha Yoga and have completed 200 hours teaching training in Shivanada Yoga accredited by IYN, with additional qualifications to teach Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga, both accredited by IYN. Additionally, I teach Children’s Yoga, training accredited by Children Do Yoga, a registered college of the Complementary Medical Association. My classes are friendly, supportive, and nurturing with an emphasis on alignment, breath control and mindful movement. As an experienced classroom music teacher for over 10 years, teaching in secondary and primary schools, I already loved teaching. Therefore, it was a natural step to train to become a yoga teacher. I am fascinated by sound and music and regularly incorporate the healing qualities of sound into my classes.

Why yoga? Yoga found me at a time when I needed it the most, it was an amazing gift and one I truly cherish. Through practising yoga, not only did I feel physically stronger and more flexible, I discovered a sense of peace and acceptance I had not experienced before, it quietened my racing mind, and I found clarity and a renewed sense of purpose. Yoga changed my whole being – I became a human being and not a human doing.

We all have our own varied motivation for stepping into a yoga class, you may be certain of your motivation, or perhaps you are curious to find out where yoga can take you. Regardless of whichever of the two resonates with you, the first step is to make the decision to step onto your yoga mat and into a class. From that moment your transformation will begin – I would be delighted to help you on this journey at Harmony Yoga.

Below are some of the many benefits practising yoga may bring into your life.

Physical Health: It improves flexibility, strength, and balance. Regular practice can enhance posture, promote better circulation, and alleviate physical discomfort.

Stress Reduction: Yoga encourages relaxation through deep breathing and mindfulness, reducing levels of stress hormones in the body.

Mental Clarity and Focus: The practice cultivates mental discipline, sharpens concentration, and enhances cognitive function.

Emotional Well-being: Yoga can promote a sense of inner peace, emotional stability, and a more positive outlook on life.

Improved Breathing: Through specific breathing techniques (pranayama), yoga helps increase lung capacity and teaches efficient breathing patterns.

Pain Management: It can be effective in alleviating chronic pain, particularly in conditions like lower back pain, arthritis and migraines. Always take the advice of a medical professional before embarking on a new physical activity following an illness, accident or when recovering from an injury.

Enhanced Sleep Quality: Regular practice can lead to better sleep patterns and improved overall sleet quality.

Balanced Nervous System: Yoga practices help regulate the autonomic nervous system, leading to a state of equilibrium between the sympathetic (fight of flight) and parasympathetic (rest and digest) systems.

Increased Mindfulness: It encourages being in the present moment, fostering a deeper connection with oneself and the surrounding environment.

Cultivation of Inner Strength: Yoga fosters self-awareness, self-acceptance, and resilience, leading to a greater sense of inner strength and empowerment.

Spiritual Growth: For many, yoga is a path toward spiritual exploration providing a framework of connecting with a higher sense of purpose or consciousness.

Community and Connection: Engaging in yoga can provide a sense of belonging and community, offering opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals.

Overall, yoga is a holistic practice that benefits both the body and mind, offering a path to improved well-being and a deeper understanding of oneself.
